How to Choose the Right Sterilizer?

We buy everything to make the life of our newborn easy and comfortable. We do everything to safeguard them. One of the ways to ward off any illness and unwanted infections is to be sure that your baby's feeding bottle, bowl, spoon, pacifier, etc. are completely clean and sterilized.

No matter how thoroughly you wash the bottles and other items, there are always remnants of harmful microorganisms which are completely invisible to the naked eye. These residuals may lead to a variety of infections. So it is very important to not only clean them but also sterilize them properly.

Our mothers and grandmothers used to wash and boil our utensils to kill the bacteria. This indeed is a lengthy process. But now with the development in technology, the process of sterilization has become fairly easy. You just have to wash your baby’s cute little dinner set and put them in the sterilizer. It will not only sterilize the items but also keep them sanitized for around 24 hours.

Let's talk about the various features you should check before finalizing the sterilizer:

  1. Size: For babies who are formula fed or expressed milk by a working mother, the size of the sterilizer plays a crucial role. You would use at least 6-8 feeding bottles in a day for your baby. Some bottles have a wider neck, so they occupy a bigger space in the sterilizer. Therefore, opt for a sterilizer which can easily accommodate 6-8 bottles.
  1. Versatility: Select a sterilizer which is versatile in nature. As your baby grows, their crockery too will increase in number and variety. Buy a sterilizer which can hold bottles, spoons, pacifiers, bowls, cups, etc.
  1. Sterilizing process: Nothing can be worse than seeing your baby crying due to hunger as you wait for the sterilization to complete. The sterilization cycle varies from sterilizer to sterilizer. It takes around 2–10 minutes for the complete process. Look for a sterilizer which uses less water for sterilization as more water would mean more time.
  1. BPA free: The sterilizer should be easy and safe to use. It should be made of BPA-free plastic. Also the sterilizer should be durable. With time, plastic tends to become soft and can lead to accidents. So selecting a BPA-free, durable, and sturdy sterilizer is very important.

Apart from the above factors there are various other features like compatibility, portability, etc. which are also important while selecting your sterilizer.

Always remember, “Being healthy is not just a process; it is a way of living.”
